Damith saves the day for Maliyadeva
The 34th ‘Battle of the Rocks’ encounter between St. Anne’s College and Maliyadeva College ended in a tame draw at the Welagedara Stadium in Kurunegala yesterday.
Resuming from their overnight score of 48 for 2 Maliyadeva advanced to 224 all out in their first innings, thanks mainly to their skipper Damitha Silva who scored a sedate 85 from 201 balls with 2 sixes and 7 fours. His fifty came in 105 balls and he added a face saving 63-run partnership for the sixth wicket with Kaveen Bandara. Besides Damith opener Brian Chandrasena was the only other batsman to gave some resistant with 30 runs.
Spinner Pubudu Ganegama was the chief wrecker with 5 for 68 from 28.2 overs for the Annites.
St. Anne’s posted a mammoth 307 for 7 in their first innings on day one,were 53 for no loss in their second innings when stumps were drawn.
