And on Tuesday, Shannen Doherty, 45, returned the favor by speaking at a congressional briefing in Washington D.C. for protecting dogs and cats from human consumption.

‘We as Americans have trained dogs to do amazing things — they take bullets for our officers and sniff bombs,’ the 90210 actress said, according to the Washington Post.

‘They are part of us and for us to not stand up and protect animals … we have to protect our own,’ she said.

The Charmed star spoke about the newly-introduced bill H.R. 1406, the Dog and Cat Meat Trade Prohibition Act.

Her brother, Sean Doherty, was a lobbyist who introduced Shannen to Washington legislators working on the bill.

Shannen sat on a panel with government heavyweights dedicated to banning the transport of cats and dogs meant for the pet-flesh market.

The Memphis native spends her time back in Los Angeles as an advocate for the Animal Hope & Wellness Foundation.

The Heathers actress recently finished chemotherapy for breast cancer, which she was diagnosed with in 2015.

Not only does she acknowledge that her dog Bowie discovered the cancer, but she also said he helped get her through the surgery and treatment.

‘Having cancer brings things into a different kind of focus,’ she said, dedicating her time now to helping save animals from cruelty.

The brave star says fighting the disease has been one of the hardest things she’s ever had to do, but she remains hopeful she’ll make a full recovery.

‘Hope is possible. Possibility is possible,’ she wrote on Instagram last October. ‘To my cancer family and everyone suffering…. stay courageous. Stay strong. Stay positive. #wegotthis.’
