Debutants Siam City Cement, Ansell Textiles make winning entry
Debutants, Siam City Cement (SCC) and Ansell Textiles (Ansell) made their entry to MCA Cricket in style, as they recorded their first ever wins, in the opening week of the 2nd Commercial Credit & Finance PLC sponsored MCA ‘F’ Division 25-Over League Tournament 2017, which commenced last weekend.
SCC snatched a thrilling 1-wicket win over Lion Brewery (Lion) and, in similar fashion, Ansell nudged Prym Intimates (Prym) by 4 runs.
Textured Jersey (TJ) ‘B’, after conceding 120 penalty runs (8×15) for their late arrival, to MJF Exports, ended up on the winning side. TJ chasing a victory target of 245 runs in 25 overs @ 9.8 RPO, blasted their way to win by 8 wickets, with 5.1 overs to spare (250/2 in 19.5), as their opening batsman, Randika Perera carried his bat out for a brutal, boundary filled 175 not out in 72 balls, with 10 sixes and 25 fours.
The other notable performances came from Anjana Ushantha of Technomedics (89) vs WNS Global; an opening stand of 117 runs in 66 balls between R. Urendren (79 not out ) and S. Sanjeewa (58) for Akbar Bros vs Asia Capital; Kavinda Perera of Asia Capital (78) vs Akbar Bros; an opening stand of 140 runs in 79 balls between S. Chanaka (78) and S. Patterson (49) for HSBC ‘C’ vs Bharthi Airtel; Sajith Anuradha of Hayleys ‘B’ (76) vs Moodys; an unbroken opening stand of 104 runs in 54 balls between F. Ahamed (77 not out) and K. Wijesiri (14) for EB Creasey vs Jay Lanka; and Iresh Udara of Prym Intimates (5-0-18-4) vs Ansell Textiles.
