Shakira gives back to develop literacy in Colombia
View(s):Shakira is lying low with her music career but the 40 year old Colombian singer songwriter is helping her country by giving back to develop literacy and educate people through her Barefoot foundation called Pies Descalzos. Just last week before the devastating landslide the ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ hitmaker, announced building the seventh school under her foundation in her hometown. The Pies Descalzos Foundation was launched 20 years ago to build schools in neglected areas of Colombia. Her new school will open in 2019.
The all girl group Little Mix is currently on tour in the US supporting singer Ariana Grande. Leigh-Anne Pinnock suffered burns to both her legs on 30th March and the group was reduced to a trio in concert at the Honda Centre in Anaheim, California. Pinnock did manage to come onstage with bandages on her thighs for just one song. Meanwhile Little Mix has releases ‘No More Sad Songs’ as their new single.
Harry Styles has released his debut solo material by the name title ‘Sign Of The Times’ on 7th April. Meanwhile Calvin Harris has teamed up with Ariana Grande, Young Thug and Pharrell Williams to release the collaborative track ‘Heatstroke’. It’s a follow up to Calvin’s last hit song ‘Slide’ featuring Frank Ocean and Migos.
Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape Of You’ is still the UK’s No: 1 song for the 12th straight week. There is more to music and the chart other than Ed Sheeran with visible signs as the track by Kygo & Selena Gomez has climbed from 19 to No: 7. ‘It Ain’t Me’ an EDM/ tropical house song by the Norwegian DJ Kygo and US artist Selena Gomez is only the third top 10 UK hit for Kygo and for Gomez it her second UK top 10 hit. The son is currently top of the Norwegian chart.
Drake has managed another top 10 track with ‘Blem’ advancing from 14 to No: 10. The acoustic guitar driven track supplements his bigger hit now ‘Passionfruit’ which also advances a single notch to No: 3.
Just when you thought we were levelling out on an overdose of Ed Sheeran, the ‘Shape Of You’ hitmaker is making plans to release more new songs later this year. According press reports from the UK Sheeran the songs were recorded songs last year in Ghana.
A fortnight ago Dame Vera Lynn as celebrated her 100 birthday she also released an album called ‘100’ which subsequently entered the UK album chart at No: 3. Thus she became the oldest living person to chart at the high point. The album features present day artists such as Alfie Boe, Alexander Armstrong, Cynthia Erivo and Aled Jones.
