Kavindya Perera of John Keells Holdings (JKH) and I.I.D. Fernando of Expo Lanka (Expo) walked away with the glittering D. Samson & Sons Challenge Trophies as Singles champions in the Women’s and Men’s 34th Mercantile Badminton Association (MBA) Novices Championships 2017, concluded at the MBA Headquarters and Courts Complex, Malalasekera Mawatha recently.

In this year’s edition, sponsored by Captain Sports (VSE and Kumpoo Brands), 61 Mercantile firms participated, playing 389 matches in 9 categories, involving  294 Men and 58 Women Shuttlers.

Captain Sports Managing Director, Sujeewa Herath was Chief Guest while MBA’s Past Vice President, Princely Cooke was the Guest-of-Honour.

  •  Masters’ Singles: MBA Challenge Trophy- Mahesh Weerasinghe (Laugfs Petroleum); Runner-up- D.G.A. Abeykoon (JKH)
  •  Men’s Veterans Doubles: Vallible Finance Challenge Trophy- Lalin Yatawara-Sumith Silva (McLarens); Runners-up- Ravi Ukwatta-Thushara Thomas (Commercial Bank)
  •  Men’s Veterans Singles: Prof. Keerthi Dissanayake Challenge Trophy- Dammika Wahalathanthi (MIT); Runner-up- Krisil Sampath (AIA)
  •  Men’s Over-35 Doubles: MBA Challenge Trophy- K.D.R.M. Ranasinghe-Priyan De Silva (Airport & Aviation); Runners-up- Prabath Fernando (Brandix)-Kasun Pigera (A&E Lanka)
  •  Mixed Doubles: Princely Cooke&Mike Cooke Challenge Trophy- Lihindu Attharage-Naduni Perera (JKH); Runners-up- Aravinda Gunasekera (Virtusa)-Kavindya Perera (JKH)
