Harry Styles scores first No. 1 as a solo artist

Harry Styles has scored his first No: 1 song as a solo artist, as his debut single ‘Sign Of The Times’ entered the UK singles chart at the top. The song which was released on April 7 led from the inception on all formats. It culminated in Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape Of You’ being dethroned after 13 weeks at No:1. Harry Styles at 23 is a member of the popular boy group One Direction and is also the only member to score a No: 1 on homeground. Zayn Malik did score No: 1 with his debut solo release ‘Pillowtalk’, after he quit the band. ‘Sign Of The Times’ is a soft rock, piano led ballad with similarities to the style of the late John Lennon. Styles co- penned the track with Alex Salibian, Ryan Nasci, Mitch Rowland, Jeff Bhasker and Tyler Johnson. The latter two are also co-producers of the hit song. ‘Sign Of The Times’ is the lead single from Harry Styles debut self titled album which due to come out on May 12.
Ed Sheeran’s former No: 1 song ‘Shape Of You’ has become the UK’s bestselling single for 2017 as it clocked over 1.8 million in sales on all formats. Also as Sheeran commenced the UK leg of his world tour on April 12 in Dublin, it has emerged that 5 million people have tried to get hold of tickets to see him live during his 13 date tour.
In another development Ed Sheeran has settled a copyright infringement matter over his song ‘Photograph’. In June 2016 song writers Thomas Leonard and Martin Harrington sued Sheeran claiming his song was similar to Matt Cardle’s 2012 hit ‘Amazing’ which they co-penned. Last week Sheeran settled for £16 million.
Louis Tomlinson is likely to receive a warning over the alleged assault incident at the Los Angeles International Airport on March 3. He was detained after an altercation with a photographer over a privacy issue with his girlfriend Eleanor Calder. Tomlinson says he acted in self defence as many airport workers have side with the One Direction member.
As Rihannatakes a break from the music scene, the 29-year-old pop star is wasting no time in harnessing her business skills by co-creating her line of jewellery for the luxury brand Swiss brand Chopard. Rihanna has collaborated with Caroline Sheufele the co- president and creative director of Chopard to produce a nine piece fine jewellery line with 2000 of each design for the market. The Rihanna line for the Swiss jewellery and watch maker will make its debut at the Cannes Film Festival in May.
