Young lantern-makers, here’s a chance to show your talent
View(s):In celebration of the ‘International Day of Observance for Vesak’, the British Council Library will be organising the ‘Vesak Lantern Competition 2017’. Interested applicants must register at the British Council Colombo Library counters on or before April 30, 2017 by filling in an application. Registration will be free for both library members and non-members, and the competition is open only to individual competitors.
The age groups for the competition are as follows: 6-10 years, 11-15 years and 16-20 years. All participants will be required to bring their own materials to make their lanterns. Winners will be selected from each age group by a panel of judges based on the concept, artistic value, type of material used and cost effectiveness etc.
All participants will receive certificates for their participation, while the winners will receive cash prizes of Rs.25,000, Rs.15,000 and Rs.10,000. The participants must submit their Vesak lanterns on either Saturday, May 6 or Sunday, May 7. All lanterns will be displayed within the British Council Colombo premises from Wednesday, May 10 to Sunday, May 14.
