DSI Spikes Schools talent islandwide for 17th year
DSI recently announced the launch of the DSI Supersport Schools Volleyball Championship (SSVBC) 2017, which will begin on May 20, on a District and Provincial Level.
Having joined hands with the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation (SLVB) and the Schools Volleyball Association (SVA) of the Ministry of Education (MoE), Sri Lanka’s leading footwear manufacturer and distributor, has come forth to conduct the Championship for the 17th time.
Initiated in 1999 by DSI, with the collaboration of the SLVB and the MoE, the DSI SSVBC provides both rural and urban school players with an opportunity to develop and showcase their talents, and further build their careers in both the national and international arena. Since its inception, the tournament has served to produce a total of 40 National Spikers.
A special addition to this year’s Championship agenda is the re-introduction of the Under (U)-13 Boys & Girls category, with the objective of developing an enthusiasm and passion for the country’s National Sport amongst schoolchildren as well.
The Championship will be conducted at District and Provincial levels, with the former conducted from May 20 to June 12, and the latter from June 24-28. The finals are scheduled for September 8 & 9.
With the addition of the U-13 category, the organisers expect almost 4,000 of Boys & Girls teams in all 4 categories- U-13, U-15, U-17 and U-19. A large number of teams will be taking part from the Northern and North-Eastern Provinces. The organisers expect over 1,000 entries for the inaugural U-13 Championship.
Application Forms for the Championships will be sent out to all schools and can also be collected from all DSI Showrooms islandwide, as well as from the Sports Division of all Provincial Education Depts and Zonal Education Offices. Completed Applications, with ‘DSI Supersport Schools Volleyball Championship 2017’, written on the top left corner of the envelope, must be addressed to: The Dept of Marketing, D. Samson & Sons (Pvt) Ltd., 257, High Level Road, Nawinna, Maharagama. Or, handed over at the nearest DSI Showroom.
