Bata announces entry into Sri Lankan ecommerce market
View(s):Global footwear maker Bata, which has operated in Sri Lanka for the past 67 years, says it has been hugely successful in all countries where it operates, offering convenient shopping and a huge assortment for customerâs offline.
To reposition Bata as a top brand in Sri Lanka, more focus and attention will be paid to the development of ecommerce business, while retail business will continue with the brick and mortar stores. Wholesales and institutional sales will be additional verticals to bring quality footwear to the people, the company said in a media release.
Bata Shoe Company of Ceylon Ltd was incorporated on June 9, 1950 at Grandpass, Colombo in a small warehouse with 53 employees. Bataâs initial representation in Sri Lanka was only in the city of Colombo with retail operations commencing in 1951 from one outlet in Main Street, Colombo 2. In the same year, the manufacturing was shifted to Ratmalana, the present location.
