Football pool preparing for Kyrgyzstan tour
The Football Federation of Sri Lanka has planned that residential training to be held for the Under 23 National Football Pool from May 22 onwards at the Baddegana Football Complex.
An islandwide talent search took place under the supervision of National Coach Dudley Steinwall where 35 players players from the North East and Central Provinces have been selected. The talent search for North Western Province is scheduled to be held in the near future.
The final selection trial will take place on May 20 – 21 at the City League Football Complex. Those who are selected will comprise the National Football Pool.
The Football Pool is being prepared for the AFC under 23 Challenge Trophy Qualification round matches to be held from July 19 to 23 in Kyrgyzstan. Sri Lanka will participate from Group ‘A’ where Iran, Oman, Kyrgyzstan and Sri Lanka will participate. The first match will be on July 19 between Sri Lanka vs Iran. The second match will be on July 22 between Sri Lanka and Oman. The third game will be on July 23 between Sri Lanka and Kyrgyzstan. This is the first international tournament that Sri Lanka will participate in 2017.
The top two teams will qualify for the final round. The final round will be in 2018 in China on January 27. Eighteen teams from ten groups will qualify for the final round. Â Â - SP
