Rukmalgama in the nick of time
Rukmalgama Cricket Club registered their second successive win when they snatched a heart stopping two runs win over Kolitha Cricket Club in the ongoing Colombo District Cricket Association (CDCA) Division III , 50 Over League Tournament 2017, match played at the Aarons Country Club, Horana.
RCC, who won the toss and batted posted a respectable 202 in 43.5 overs, thanks to the third wicket stand of 55 runs between, Manoj Jayaweera (50) and Kaushal Perera (25).
The RCC spin trio, Waruna Bandara (4/50) and Shameegan Sridaran (2/17) and Salinda Costa (2/18) put KCC in a precarious position, as they lost seven wickets for 127 runs, KCC recovered through a fighting forty run stand for the eighth wicket between Methsith Jayamanne (35) and Dimantha Kaushalya (35).
With the fall of the eighth wicket at 161 and the ninth at 177, leaving the last pair to get 25 runs to win. The KCC last pair held on grimly, heralding their 200 in the 47th over (three runs to win with three overs to spare)
In the fourth delivery of the 48th over, sent down by Shameegan Sridaran, clean bowled Dimantha Kaushalya, giving Rukmalgama CC one of their most memorable wins in the Club’s eight year old history .   -LR
