Six records at swimming nationals
Six new national records were established at the National and Sub-Junior Under 15 Aquatic Championships 2017 in progress at the Sugathadasa Stadium Swimming Complex.
Three out of the four new records in Women’s 4x100m LC Medley Relay, Girls Under-15 4x100m LC Freesstyle relay, Women’s 4x50m LC Freestyle Relay and Men’s 4x50m LC Freestyle Relays were established by Visakha Vidyalaya and the other was by Killerwhale Aquatics in the Men’s 4x50m LC Freestyle Relay were established while in the Girls Under 15 100m LC Freestyle event.
Ganga Seneviratne of Visakha Vidyalaya improved her own record with a time of 1:03.63 against the previous time of 1:05.85. Ovla Gamage of Lyceum International School, Wattala with a time of 33.31 set up a new record in the Boys Under-15 50m LC Breaststroke event earlier.
Mahamaya Girls Schools with 149.50 points heads the Overall Women’s championship followed by Visakha Vidyalaya (141) and Sirimavo Bandaranaike Girls School (82) occupying the second and third spots while Killerwhale Aquatics with a healthy 155 points at the top in the Men’s Overall Championship with St. Joseph’s College, Colombo and Ananda College, Colombo with 112 and 87 points are in the second and third places respectively.
Curtain comes down on this national event with the finals of the Under-15 Boys and Girls 100m Breaststroke, Open Men’s and Women’s 100m Breaststroke, Under-15 Boys and Girls 200m Butterfly Stroke, Open Men’s and Women’s 200m Butterfly Stroke, Under-15 Boys and Girls 50m Freestyle, Open Men’s and Women’s 50m Freestyle, Under-15 Boys and Girls 4x50m Medley and Open Men’s and Women’s 4x50m Medley relays.
