The month of Ramadan
The month of Ramadan is the month in which Muslims from around the world, fast. Fasting means to keep oneself from food and drink. Muslims fast from dawn till sunset for 29 or 30 days depending on the sighting of the new moon. The main purpose of fasting is to feel the hunger and thirst of the poor, to strengthen our faith and become closer to the Almighty.
The Holy Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammad during the month of Ramadan. The night that the Holy Quran was revealed was on one of the last ten odd nights of Ramadan but we do not know the exact night. So, Muslims around the world spend those nights in prayer to obtain the blessing of that night.
Apart from avoiding of eating and drinking, we must also keep away from telling lies and cheating as the fast becomes worthless. This is also known as the month of forgiveness. During this holy month, Muslims are involved in giving a lot of charity to fellow brothers and sisters in order to purify their wealth. The whole objective of Ramadan is to purify the entire human being to live a better life in this world and to achieve paradise. After fasting the entire month, Muslims celebrate Eid-Ul-Fitr Festival to mark the end of the holy month.

The roads in Chinatown were dirty.
We enjoyed shopping there.
We went to Genting Highlands

We went to Mc’Donalds. Then we went to Snowland. After spending some time there we went to our hotel. In the evening we went to visit one of my friend’s and had dinner too.

The song I like best
The song I like best is ‘Dancing Queen’. It is very lovely. I love to sing it because it has a lovely tune. I learnt it from my brother. This song is by ‘ABBA’. ABBA has written many songs such as ‘Mamma Mia’, ‘I have a dream’ etc.
Last year on May 12 was my friend’s party. When I went there we played musical chairs. There I heard the ‘Dancing Queen’ song being played. So I loved playing that game. Suddenly when I was singing I closed my eyes. Then I saw that I was the first and won a prize. I was so happy.
Each time when I have a race with my brother I play that song, so that I win. It is a magical song I guess.

The ‘Three R’ System
As we all know, our beloved planet Earth undergoes a series of environmental issues nowadays. Among them the problems created due to non-decaying waste such as polythene and plastic are serious. In order to minimize this, the environmentalists have introduced three great concepts as ‘Reduce, Reuse and Recycle’, which is known as the system of ‘3R.’
Reduce is minimizing the production and utilization of things that are harmful for the environment. We should always try to use reed bags, cloth bags and paper bags instead of polythene. Utilization of glass bottles is also a good substitution for plastic. Although glass is not degradable, we can use it over and over again. This introduces another great concept ‘Reuse.’ Even the polythene bags can be reused for our household purposes. Although we cannot use plastic water bottles for drinking again and again, they can be used in agricultural purposes such as planting seeds.
Recycling is another good way to cut down the accumulation of waste. We can produce new equipment and things using old ones. These days, most of the cans, glass, plastic and electronic equipment are recycled. Sadly, the development of this third concept is a little slow in Sri Lanka. Recycling centres should be established in each and every city and village.
The government and nature societies alone cannot follow the 3R system to preserve nature. We common people should be aware of the issues and should take necessary measures.
Let’s get together to protect our beautiful environment.

The dog who lives on my right
My neighbours have a dog. Its original name is ‘Cook.’, but we call him ‘Kukka’ as his name. He is a stray dog, but it seems as if he was well looked after by its true owner. He is a dog who is terrified of fireworks. He came to our neighbour’s house on December 25, 2013. Since he was lost, our neighbours took good care of him from that day onwards.
‘Kukka’ was a severe dog when he just came. He loved his master very much, although he bit many visitors and injured them. This went on for about five months. But then it all changed after six months. He became much more calm. He became friendly. He even played with me. Still he is a very good dog. The dog who lives on my right is a friendly, obedient and lovable pet.
