Shilpa strengthens Indian-Lankan historic handicraft ties
View(s):Twenty five Indian artistes and 14 Sri Lankan craftsmen will exhibit their work at a grand show of Indian and Sri Lankan crafts next weekend. ‘Shilpa 2017’ to be held from May 25-28 at Mihilaka Medura, BMICH is organised by the Indian High Commission together with ‘Hands of Sri Lanka Arts and Crafts Foundation and ‘Dastkaari Haat Samiti’ India.
Chairman Hands of Sri Lanka National Crafts Foundation, Buddhi Keerthisena said that following the success of the first exhibition last year, they were keen to hold the exhibition again.
The Indian High Commission has not only supported this venture but also sent local craftsmen to exhibit at Indian fairs, he said mentioning the links between the two countries dating back to the time of Theri Sanghamitta, who brought the Sacred Bo Sapling to
Sri Lanka and also people who represented 18 crafts or professions who came with her, laying the foundation for the arts and crafts industry in this island.
Shilpa 2017 –will be opened on Thursday, May 25 at 9.30 a.m.
