Rukmalgama CC in Round II with 4th win
Rukmalgama CC (RCC) advanced to Round II of the Colombo District Cricket Association (CDCA) Division III 50-Over League Tournament 2017, when they registered their 4th win by beating Capricorn CC by 8 wickets on the ‘Parabola’ method, in their last League on Sunday (21) at the Supremo Sands Grounds, Padukka.
Capricorn sent into bat under overcast conditions, were 81 for 3 in 20.2 overs, when rain halted play at 11.40 am. The match, reduced to a 38 overs a side, re-commenced at 1.40 pm.
Capricorn did not last their new quota of overs, and were all out for 150 runs in 34.1 overs. S.S. Sharma, a youngster from Matale, held the crumbling fort for them with a brave 48 runs in 36 balls, inclusive of 3 sixes and 3 fours. The pick of the bowlers were medium pacers, skipper Dhanushka Abeywickrama (2.1-0-5-3), Salinda Costa (6-0-21-2) and spinner Waruna Bandara (8-0-31-1)
RCC, with the unpredictable weather at the back of their minds, went after the bowling, as their openers, Dinesh Vindyaka (86 not out in 54 balls, with 6 sixes and 10 fours) and Sulochana Pasan (45) put on 131 runs in 76 balls, to reach their target, 152 for 2, in just 16.1 overs.
RCC finished 2nd to NCC in Group 14, with their 3 other wins, against Professional CC, Kolitha CC and Eleven Hearts CC.
