Wesley began their campaign of the Under 17 Division One inter-school cricket tournament with a massive 181 runs win over Bandaranayake MMV Gampaha in the match played at Campbell Park.
The foundation for the win was laid by Praboda Perera who cracked an unbeaten 95, Thisuraka Akmeemana and Shenal Dangalla who both also made half tons which helped Wesley taking first lease of the wicket to make a formidable score of 275 for 5.
Later the Wesley bowling trio comprising of Shashi Somarathna, Movin Subasinghe and Sanura Amarasinghe shared seven wickets between them to bundle out their opponents for a paltry 94 runs.
An unbeaten knock of 112 by Mohamed Rukshan paved the way for St Anthony’s Katugastota to record a convincing 159 runs win over St Thomas Matale at Katugastota.
Half tons by Brian Johnpulle and Shehan Fernando enabled St Benedict’s to record a thrilling two wicket win over with four balls to spare against Holy Cross Kalutara at Kalutara.
In the other matches that were played saw Nalanda, St Joseph Vaz Wennappuwa, Debarawewa National School, Ananda, Trinity and Thurstan record wins over St Peter’s, St Xavier’s Marawila, St Thomas Matara, St Anne’s Kurunegala and Maris Stella.
