Wonder Woman” displayed some girl power this weekend with an estimated $103.1 million opening — the biggest for a female-directed feature and $15 million more than the previous record-holder, “Fifty Shades of Grey.”
Warner Bros. on Monday revised its earlier estimate of $100.5 million, Yahoo News reported.
The film, directed by Patty Jenkins and starring Gal Gadot, also had the largest opening for a female-led comic adaptation, crushing “Ghost in the Shell,” starring Scarlett Johansson, which premiered with $18 million.
Internationally, “Wonder Woman” brought in upwards of $122 million in its opening weekend.
“Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie,” the animated feature starring the voices of Kevin Hart, Thomas Middleditch, Ed Helms, Nick Kroll and Jordan Peele, took second place, with an estimated $23.5 million haul.
James Corden Making Major Changes To Show After London Attacks
James Corden isn’t sure how, but he’ll be changing up his show this week after Saturday’s terror attacks in London, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Corden, a London native, planned to film “The Late Late Show” in the city beginning Tuesday, but the incident pushed producers to alter plans for the show’s special London edition. He will reportedly change the show’s opening.
“We’d already shot 80 percent of it, but we’ve decided to recalibrate it,” Corden told The Hollywood Reporter. “We’re going to try and do something different, but we haven’t yet figured it out yet.”
Three attackers killed seven people and injured nearly 50 on London Bridge and Borough Market over the weekend.
The special London episodes were announced back in April, and Corden told THR that the tone of the show won’t change. At the same time, however, he says there is something special about the timing.
“In one sense, of course it’s a sad time to be here, but in another sense, actually maybe bringing a show that airs I think in 153 countries to London for three nights … is a wonderful time to be doing it,” Corden told the outlet.
The show is still set to feature the same guests, including Nicole Kidman, Tom Cruise and Kit Harrington. The highly anticipated “Carpool Karoake” segment with Ed Sheeran will still air as planned, too.
