Weeknd donates funds towards Ugandan health system

Canadian pop star Weeknd has donated $100,000 to Uganda’s health system. The 27 year old whose real name is Abel Tesfaye from Canada made the donation after visiting the African nation in March to shoot his video ‘Unforgettable’. During that trip Weeknd visited the Suubi Health Centre in Budondo where he decided to make his donation which will go towards the purchase of medical supplies and the local blood bank. Grammy award winning Weeknd has scored big hits with songs such as ‘The Hill’s, ‘Can’t Feel My Face’ and ‘Starboy’.

Fergie has announced that she is still a member of the Black Eyed Peas. The 42 year old singer issued a statement on 3rd June a few days after Black Eyed Peas leader will.i.am seem to suggest she had left the group when he referred to Fergie as a featured musician of the group. Reports suggest will.i.am was not happy the Fergie has started her own record label under the BMG family. Will.i.am later clarified the comments by adding Fergie was busy working on her solo project. The Black Eyes Peas became a globally popular group when Fergie joined them in 2003 and went to score huge hit such as ‘Where Is The Love’, ‘Don’t Phunk With My Heart’, and ‘The Time’.

Ariana Grande has visited her fans that were injured in the bomb explosion at the end of her Manchester concert last month. The 23 year old visited them at the Manchester Children’s Hospital when she returned to the city on 2nd June ahead of her charity concert which was held on 4th June. Meanwhile her song ‘One Last Time’ which has now been repackaged as One Last Manchester is very like to cross over on to the UK top as the downloads are very heavy. Proceeds are going to the local charity.

‘Despacito’ is not letting up its grip on the UK music scene. The song remix by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee with Justin Bieber has clocked up a fourth week at the helm of the UK singles chart. In the run up the last countdown ‘Despacito’ has combined sales of 129,000 copies. The song has thus become the longest serving UK foreign language song overtaking the three run of ‘Chanson D’ Amour’ by Manhattan Transfer in 1977.

A protest song by the Captain Ska called ‘Liar Liar’ has debuted on the UK singles chart at No: 4. This was ahead of the UK general election on 8th June. The anti- austerity protest song targeted Conservative Prime Minister Theresa May with soundbites. Proceeds from the song are expected to go to food banks and the People’s Assembly Against Austerity. The ska track was used against the Tory party during the 2015 general election too.

Jonas Blue’s song ‘Mama’ has made a four notch climb to enter the UK top 10 at 8. The tropical house song features Australian singer William Singe. ‘Mama’ is the third top ten hit for Blue on homeground.
