Carrom Federation AGM soon
View(s):It is understood that the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Sri Lanka Carrom Federation (SLCF) is to be held in the near future, as its Audited Financial Report (AFR) is with the Auditor General (AG) at the moment.
According to SLCF Secretary Thumula Naotunne, once the Auditor General gives the green light on the Audited Financial Report, the Annual General Meeting will be held. The last two events conducted by the Sri Lanka Carrom Federation were the Grand Slam and the Nationals last September. Since then no tournament was held.
At a meeting with the Minister of Sports, according to a reliable source, the minister had instructed to hold the AGM as early as possible, and to speed up with the Audited Financial Report. It is a pity that a world champion side’s controlling body is inactive, with its administrators pointing fingers at each other, without solving internal problems amicably, for the benefit of the sport.
The deadline to hold the AGM was May 31, and it is strange that the administrators are not aware that an Annual general Meeting should be held after the financial report has been audited.
According to a Vice President of the Sri Lanka Carrom Federation, it was brought to the notice of the minister that the Audited Financial Report was not an approved report of the Sri Lanka Carrom Federation’s general committee. It also contained payments which were not approved. It had gone to the extent of a ‘No-Confidence’ motion against the SLCF’s Secretary.
The minister had instructed to settle their internal problems and to hold the AGM as early as possible. When questioned about the Accounts Report, it is understood that, the minister had told to defeat it at the AGM.
This sort of tug-of-war among the officer bearers of this sports body will do no good for the persons concerned, as they will have to go after a term of two years, but the game that had won the World Title should go on forever. Â Â - LR
