A superb knock of 150 in 137 balls by number three batsman Lasith Warnakulasooriya helped St Anne’s College Kurunegala to an easy 108 run victory over Kingswood College Kandy in their all island inter school under 17 division I Cricket  tournament match played at Prison grounds Pallekelle recently. Warnakulasooriya reached his hundred in 113 balls and in all hit 2 sixes and 22 fours.

St Anne’s made 222 from 49.2 overs and restricted their opponents for just 114 in 31.5 overs as Kavindu Ranasinghe captured 5/30 for the winners.

In another match in the same tournament St Anne’s defeated Ibbagamuwa M.M.V by 95 runs at Kurunegala. After winning the toss St Anne’s batted first made 196 from 47.3 overs. Lasith Warnakulasooriya again batted well to score a fine 78 while Kavindu Ranasinghe (51) too scored some useful runs. In reply Ibbagamuwa could manage only 101 in 28.4 overs. Kavindu Ranasinghe bowled best to capture 4/23 for the Annites.

Holy Cross, Carey, St Anthony’s record shocking wins

Holy Cross Kalutara, Carey and St Anthony’s Wattala recorded shocking wins over fancied team in the first round encounters of the Under 17 Division One cricket tournament which is in progress now.

Holy Cross coasted to a comfortable seven wicket win over Ananda while Carey secured a close three wicket win against St Peter’s and St Anthony’s got the better of DSS by seven wickets.

Meanwhile Wesley and Mahanama Panadura continued their winning spree as they maintained their unbeaten record with wins against De La Salle Mutwal and Tissa Central Kalutara.
