Lyceums Panadura and Nugegoda battle on July 1 at De Soysa Park

The second Limited Overs Cricket encounter 2017 between Lyceum International School Nugegoda and Lyceum International School Panadura for the Nikitha Grero Challenge Trophy will take place at the De Soysa Stadium in Moratuwa on July 1. In the inaugural encounter played last year, Lyceum Panadura became the champions of the Battle of the Lyceumers by chasing the winning total of 92 runs in just 11.5 overs to record a 5-wicket win. Lyceum Nugegoda were bowled out for 91 in 29 overs after being put into bat first.
This year the Nugegoda team will be led by the versatile Dewmin de Alwis. The team is training hard under the guidance of head coach Lal Senarathna and MIC Pathum Madhushanka. The Panadura team is led by the flamboyant Nesanda Weerasekara while the team is currently training under the supervision of head coach Kapila Mahinda and MIC Rumesh Wickramasinghe.
Both teams received the opportunity of playing in the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Tournament almost one year back and have done well in their first outing against the much experienced sides. The Lyceum Nugegoda Under-15 cricketers became Division III champions while Lyceum Panadura reached the quarter-finals and pre-quarter-finals in Division III in the Under-13 and Under-17 age categories respectively.
In addition to this both teams have performed remarkably well in all age groups at the Inter-International Schools Cricket Tournament. The big match encounter this year will be hosted by Lyceum International School Panadura. This encounter was initiated by Nikitha Grero last year to ensure that Lyceumers too get the experience of a big match. - Text and pix NA
