Beetle Owners’ Club Annual World Volkswagen Day Celebrations on July 9

The Volkswagen Beetle Owners’ Club has made arrangements to hold the Annual World Volkswagen Day Celebrations on Sunday, July 9 in grand style. World Volkswagen Day is celebrated annually on June 22 and VW Clubs around the globe celebrate the event on the Sunday closes to the date. With the religious celebrations dawning on the Sunday closest to this date, the club decided to hold the event on July 9 in order to ensure that the entire VW owning community could attend the event and enjoy the program that has been put together for the enjoyment of all participants.
This year’s event would also be from “Heritage to Heritage” with the start being from the Galle Face Hotel where the VWs of all ages and models would make their way to the hotel for the registration and to be flagged off and will proceed in parade form to the Mount Lavinia Hotel, where the grand finale will take place. The Mount Lavinia Hotel has made plans to host the event in grand style with the inclusion of a German Summer Festival which would entice the traditional “Fun in the Sun” in pure German tradition.
The awarding of the “Hall of Fame” will take place this year as well whereby the club would honour a Long standing owner of a VW Beetle who has owned his Mighty Bug for over 50years and recently did a trek to Jaffna. In addition a novel event being the raffle Draw of a Prized Classic VW Beetle will be held on this day as it is a first that any motoring club has carried out a raffle with the grand prize being a Classic Car in Mint condition.
The Classic VW Beetle will be on display at the Mount Lavinia Hotel from July 1 and tickets will be sold at the hotel for those who wish to try their luck in winning a once in a life time offer of becoming a proud owner of a Pristine Condition Classic VW Beetle.
