St. Joseph’s College created history by winning the Milo Under-20 President’s Trophy Knockout Rugby Championship 2017 after a stunning 19-13 win against defending champions Isipathana College at the Racecourse ground last Saturday.

Fly half Chathura Seneviratne was the star player for the winning team as he scored 14 out of the total 19 points including a try and three successful penalty kicks. The remaining try was scored for the Joes by flanker Tharindu de Alwis as the winners led 8-5 at halftime.

For Isipathana tries were scored by No.8 Devin Gunaratne and winger Vioga Keshawa while the solitary penalty was put over by Chamod Fernando.
In the Premier Trophy final Maliyadeva College Kurunegala recorded a stunning 22-20 win against favourites Ananda College to walk out champions among the Division I ‘B’ schools on Friday. Maliyadeva led 5-3 at halftime and went on to score their points from four tries and a conversion which came off the backs of S.D. Herath, who touched down twice while I.V. Devapura and V.D. Atapattu score a try each. Y. Kumara made a conversion.
Ananda scored from two converted tries and two penalties. A try each was posted by S.D. Rathnaweera and D.T. Danushka while D.S. Wijesinghe put over the two conversions and the two penalties.

St. Anne’s College Kurunegala beat Carey College to claim the Chairman’s Trophy and become the best school Rugby team among Division I Segment ‘C’ sides. Both the Premier and Chairman’s trophy finals were played at the Sugathadasa Stadium last Friday. The competition was organised and conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association in partnership with Nestle Lanka’s Milo, who celebrated the partnership of 25 years with the Schools Knockout Championship.
