Dulari’s students hold exhibition
View(s):“Expressions”- an art exhibition by the pupils of Dulari de Fonseka is on today at the Lionel Wendt Art gallery. Around 100 paintings by the talented students who range from age 5 upwards to adult students are on display.
Dulari is of the firm belief that whilst being a proven method in developing essential motor skills in young children, art teaches one to be patient, to concentrate, visualize and think clearly. It is therapy and it is meditation. It is utterly enjoyable, whilst communicating a serious message.
She credits her parents for identifying her talent from a young age. She had the opportunity of being tutored by the celebrated artist Gate Mudaliyar Amarasekera, as a child. Thereafter, she followed an extensive course in theoretical and practical aspects of fine arts at the Vibhavi Academy of Fine Arts.
“Experimenting with oils, watercolour, pastels, charcoal and pencils helps young people expose something beautiful and talented, and even after over two decades of doing what I love, the sense of satisfaction I experience in journeying with my students, is something incomparable,” says Dulari.
Dulari de Fonseka lives and paints with her family in Thalawathugoda. Her work can be found on www.dularipaintings.com. Her exhibition which opened on Friday will be on today from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
