Fair First’s Lakshan Perera second time unlucky
The weather gods were once again the spoilsport of MCA Cricket.
The ongoing 7th Stafford Motor Co. (Pvt) Ltd., sponsored ‘Honda’ Trophy – Mercantile Cricket Association (MCA) ‘G’ Division 25-Over League Tournament 2017, was severely hampered during the last weekend, as 9 games were washed out without a ball being bowled, and 7 games were played with reduced overs (a minimum 8 overs per team for a result).
In one of the matches that went the full distance, Fair First Insurance [(Fair First) formerly Union Assurance General ] made hay in rare sunshine, as they trounced MAS Active (MAS) ‘D’ by 143 runs .
Fair First opening batsman, Lakshan Perera was most unfortunate to miss a ton for the second time in the tournament. Perera, who earlier made 88 in 62 balls vs A. Baur & Co., hit another belligerent 91 in 49 balls, with 6 sixes and 10 fours, which enabled Fair First to finish with the best team total for the weekend at 235 for 6 in 25 overs.
Spinners, Mahesh de Alwis (4-0-14-3) and Isuru Sampath (1.5-0-2-4) bowled well in tandem to skittle out MAS ‘D’ for a paltry 92 runs in 13.5 overs.
The other notable performance came from Saranga Nadeeshan of CEAT Kelani [75 in 64 balls, with 5 sixes and 5 fours vs VS Information (VSI)], and the 115-runs stand for the 3rd wicket in 70 balls between Jeevan Prasad (75) and Rukshan Gamage (60) from Group M Media vs Alliance Finance.
The tournament will be continued this weekend with a card of 16 matches.
