Christ Church Matale emerge hockey champs
View(s):Christ Church College, Matale emerged champions at the 3rd Singer All Island Seven-a-Side Schools Hockey Tournament 2017 scoring a 2-1 victory over Maris Stella College, Negombo at the Edward Park Hockey Grounds, Matale recently.
Organised and conducted by the Matale Old Thomians HA the tournament was sponsored by Singer Sri Lanka with AVH Distributors Pharmaceutical Company and Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation as co-sponsored was participated by 22 school teams island wide.
The Chief Guest was Ranjith Aluvihare, MP for Matale and the Guests-of- Honour were L.T.B. Dehideniya, Appeal Court Judge and Mahesh Ratnam, Business Development Manager, Singer,
Sri Lanka. both distinguished old boys of St. Thomas’ Matale.
Results knockout final round:
- 1st quarter-final: Chirst Church College, Matale beat St. Thomas’ Matale – 2-0 on penalty shootout.
- 2nd quarter-final: St. Aloysius, Galle beat Joseph Vas, Wennappuwa – 1-0
- 3rd quarter-final: Dhamadutha College, Badulla beat S. Thomians’ Mt. Lavinia 1-0
- 4th quarter-final: Maris Stella College, Negombo beat Trinity College, Kandy 2-0 on penalty shootout
- 1st semi-final: Christ Church College, Matale beat St. Aloysius Galle 2 – 1.
- 2nd semi-final: Maris Stella College, Negombo beat Dharmadutha, Badulla 4-3 on penalty shootout.
- Final: Christ Church, Matale beat Maris Stella College, Negombo 2-1.
