CMCA to take on SSC veterans
View(s):Colombo Masters Cricket Association 50+ (CMCA) will meet SSC Veterans in a 30 over cricket encounter on July 15, 2017 at the SSC Grounds commencing at 12 noon.
The match was organised by Mahinda Halangoda a former SSC cricketer now member of CMCA. Mahinda will turn out For SSC Veterans. This Annual Cricket Match will be played in Memory of T. Aloy Perera ardent supporter of SSC Cricket from 1966 to 1981.
Lasantha Perera — the son of Aloy Perera is a key player for CMCA stalwarts of yesteryear. Udaya Yatawara, Lalith Wijerathne, Nallaih Devarajan along with some international expat players captained by Dharsha Abeyawardena would make a formidable opposition for the SSC Veterans. Colombo Masters Cricket Association are the pioneers in 50+60+ Cricket in Sri Lanka who could boast to have 40 Playing members and have the privilege of practicing at the Oval and also Corporate members of the Tamil Union.
Upul Sumathipala was one of the first batch of players who joined the CMCA in October 2016 in its inauguration. The formation of the CMCA was the ‘Brain Child’ of Sunil Fernando ‘Kreeda’ London U.K who was a personal cricketing friend of Mahes De Zoysa ex-Anandian who took the idea on board and established a viable Competitive Veterans Cricket Squad and Association. The CMCA has so far played six games over the last six months in various parts of the country to boost more teams to adapt the idea of Veterans Cricket. Galle and Kandy are new comers to Veterans Cricket at present.
Finally the game between SSC Veterans and CMCA is going to be a fiercely fought annual event in the coming years. - L.R.
