Rukmalgama CC no match for Old Thomians SC
Aruna Henrysen- 101 in 78 balls with 7 sixes and 7 fours- ensures 129-runs win
Despite, Salinda Costa’s brave and entertaining late rally, the Old Thomians SC (OTSC), largely aided by Aruna Henrysen’s century, coasted to a comfortable 129-runs win over Rukmalgama CC (RCC), in their Colombo District Cricket Association (CDCA) Division III 50 Over League Tournament 2017, 2nd round match played at Padukka last Sunday. The match was reduced to a 45 overs-a-side game, due to a wet outfield. OTSC, sent into bat, helped by atrocious RCC fielding, and riding on a 167-runs 3rd-wicket stand in 126 balls, between Aruna Henrysen- 101 in 78 balls with 7 sixes and 7 fours- and Fahim Salim- 71, made a daunting 371 for 9 in 45 overs. Openers Ravin Perera- 42 and S. Wijetunga- 39, laid a solid foundation of 90 runs in 51 balls.
RCC, handicapped by the absence of 3 key players, was soon at sea, troubled by the OTSC opening bowlers, Tharinda Fernando- 8.2-0-29-3 and Nigel Adams- 5-0-29-2, losing their 5 top-order batsmen for 80 runs in 17.1 overs. Dogged batting by the middle order batsmen, Shameegan Sridaran- 25, Buddhika Gallag- 27 and Sathweegan Sridaran- 25, along with valiant No. 9 batsman, Salinda Costa- 82 in 42 balls, with 6 sixes and 8 four- guided RCC to a respectable 242 all out in 41.4 overs. RCC will have a double header this weekend when they would have met Lucky Rogers CC yesterday, at De Soysa Park, Moratuwa and meet AM Sports today at St. John’s College Grounds, Panadura.- LR
