Young and not so young artists; all there at Nawa Kalakaruwo

Since 1998, the George Keyt Foundation has been encouraging promising artists with the Nawa Kalakaruwo (Emerging Young Artists) exhibition, which has become an opportunity for them to exhibit their paintings and build up a rapport with the public.
The artists are drawn from all parts of the country and have emerged through several exhibitions and presentations organized by the Foundation including the ‘Kala Pola’, the open air art fair held every year.
This year, Nawa Kalakaruwo features 33 artists many who have exhibited before and some exhibiting for the first time.
“This is not only for young people but also designed to discover artists even around the age of 40. Through the exhibition we concentrate on the development of art. The artists are free to decide the forms and genres of their works of art,” said Michael Anthonisz, Chairman, Board of Trustees of the George Keyt Foundation.
The exhibition was opened by Chandramani Thenuwara, textile design consultant and chairperson of the Cora Abraham Trust.
Sponsored by Carson Cumberbatch PLC, Nawa Kalakaruwo ends today at the J.D.A. Perera Gallery of the University of Visual and Performing Arts at Horton Place, Colombo 7.
