Marriott opens in Weligama
View(s):International chain, the Marriott opened its first hotel in Sri Lanka on Thursday. Without any fanfare its property owner, the Weligama Hotel Properties Ltd, a subsidiary of East West Properties Ltd, on Friday announced to the Colombo Stock Exchange that the Weligama Bay Marriott Resort & Spa began operations on July 20.
The beach front property has 198 rooms and suites and is located on the Weligama Bay in the southern coast.The number of new hotel rooms are proliferating with around 4,000 being added in the next few years with hotel chains like Shangri-La, Sheraton, Grand Hyatt, St Regent’s and the Park Inn by Radisson Colombo to be opened over the next 1-3 years while Movenpick opened in January. Hilton International, which has a hotel in the capital, plans to open six more properties under the Hilton and Double Tree brand
