Ven. Professor Hanguanketa Dheerananda Thera cremated
View(s):The cremation of Ven Prof Hanguanketa Dheerananda Thera of the University of Peradeniya took place at the Pilimathalawa Dheerananda Maha Vidyalaya this week. UoP Vice Chancellor Prof Upul B. Dissanayake in his funeral oration said, the demise of the Ven Prof was a loss to the University and the country, yet his Research papers running to about 116, would be in the University for the use of students who go through these portals for years to come.
He said the Ven Prof’s contribution to Society and to the Intellectuals would stand for years come.
President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa had sent messages of condolence.
A large gathering of distinguished monks, University lecturers, students and people of the Vihares where the Thera was the Viharadipathi attended.
