Debutant Akila Nuwanga Silva pots to glory
Newcomer to the Travel Trade Sports Club (TTSC), Infinity Vacations player, Akila Nuwanga Silva emerged ‘Cup’ winner at the 4th TTSC Pool Championships 2017, concluded at the ‘Shotz’ Pool Parlour, Excel World, Colombo 10, recently.
This year’s edition had 38 players from 14 member firms competing.
Akila Nuwanga created the biggest upset when he beat last year’s ‘Plate’ winner Mohamed Sharaz of SriLankan Airlines, 2-0.
Yaseer Shafraz of Classic Travels won the ‘Plate’ Championship, beating Dasith Dushmanth of Green Holidays, 2-0.
Andre Power of Walkers Tours took the ‘Bowl’ Championship, defeating Ackiel Jameel of Amadeus Lanka, 2-1.
Dilshan Gnanapragasam of Resplendent Ceylon won the ‘Shield’ Championship, beating Mohamed Hassan of Classic Travel, 2-0; Gnanapragasam was responsible for the exit of top Seed Viraj Nallawangsa of Authenticities (last year ‘Cup’ runner-up) in the Round 1.
Notable absetee in this year’s event was last year ‘Cup’ winner, Zaeem Sheriff of Classic Travel.
The other upset was of 3rd Seed, Hasitha Kamalanath of ECO Team, last year’s ‘Bowl’ winner, losing to Shevon Herath of Infinity Vacations in Round 1.
The tournament was sponsored by Yaneesha Travels, Seeduwa, for the 4th successive year.
Awards were presented by TTSC’s Senior VP Bonita Odayar, Tournament Coordinator Shan Perera and Committee Member Dilshan Gnanapragasam. - LR
