The Sri Lanka College of Journalism (SLCJ) is pleased to announce the award of the Rex de Silva Memorial Fellowship to Ms W.G.A. Inushi Lanka to follow its Diploma in Journalism course for the Year 2017-2018.

Rex de Silva

The Rex de Silva Memorial Fellowship is presented by the family of the late Rex de Silva who was a senior journalist in Sri Lanka, being Editor-in-Chief of the Sun and the WEEKEND, then published by Independent Newspapers Ltd. He was also foreign correspondent for DPA, (Deutsche Press Agency) and later Editor-in-Chief of the Borneo Bulletin in Brunei.

Inushi Lanka from Modarawila, Panadura, who obtained two ‘A’s and a ‘C’ at the GCE Advanced Level in 2015, says her objective is to “learn to impart the knowledge she gains to others in society”. She says she wants to achieve goals as a team member and pursue a career as an academic in media studies in the future. She has been enrolled at the SLCJ for its one-year Diploma in Journalism programme.
Her interests include traditional dancing and fashion designing.

The one year Diploma in Journalism programme at the SLCJ presently has an intake of 33 students, and provides for development of skills and knowledge in two or more related fields of study at the intersection of media, business, design and new communications technologies.
It offers contextual study of the history, theory, ethics and criticism of the various practices, institutions and discourses in media, communication and information. Foundation skills and knowledge for work in the corporate media and information field is also provided with considerable breadth of expertise. The programme is delivered by experienced and professional academics and senior journalists from the media industry.

The SLCJ is managed by the Newspaper Society of Sri Lanka, The Editors’ Guild of Sri Lanka, Free Media Movement and the Sri Lanka Working Journalists Association.
