Tea party in full swing

Tea cups hanging from the tent ceiling, giant playing cards, and large inflatable flamingos that doubled up as chairs were what greeted all those who entered the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party last Friday, August 11. Held at the Asylum courtyard in Arcade – Independence Square, Colombo 7, the party was the kick-off event for the Inaugural Ceylon Tea Festival. With the stage as centrepiece the courtyard was lined with street food stalls and bars curated by the Asylum Restaurant and Lounge.

The event featured music from DJ Muku and DJ Rev with the main performance from the British band, ‘Bond Street’, which flew down from London for the event. A five-piece band, Bond Street performs modern music but with a retro and nostalgic twist. Dressed in 1920’s garb, the band started off with a jazz rendition of Michael Jackson’s Billy Jean. From Taylor Swift, to the Backstreet Boys to the Eagles, they performed it all. Delivering an energetic performance the band soon had people on the dance floor, asking for more.
