Nimesh, Imasha and Senura emerge top performers
Nimesh Ranchagoda, Imasha de Silva and Senura Silva impressed with top performances at the 13th Tibhar Junior Ranking Table Tennis Championship 2017, which was held at the S. Thomas’ College Indoor Stadium in Mt. Lavinia last weekend. Ananda College’s Senura, who won a double title, won the Most Promising Player of the Tournament award while Prabodha Mallawa of Kegalu Balika Vidyalaya was named the Most Promising Girls’ Player.
Nimesh, of Royal College, won Boy’s Under-18 championship beating Dishanka Tennakoon of Dharmaraja College Kandy. Imasha from Dharmasoka College Ambalangoda, overcame Probodha Mallawa of Kegalu Vidyalaya to annex the Girls’ Under-18 championship.
Senura Silva of Ananda College claimed a double crown by winning the Boy’s Under-15 and Under-12 titles. In the Under-15 final, he beat Danushka Wijesinghe of Kingswood College after defeating Indeepa Bandara of Pinnawela Central in the Under-12 final. Sankalana Ariyaratne of Kegalu Vidyalaya beat Danuk Lamasuriya of Ananda College to claim the Boy’s Under-10 championship.
In the remainder of the Girls’ segment, Jithara Warnakulasuriya of Ladies’ College won the Under-15 title, beating Kavisha Kavindi of Dharmasoka College. Bimandhi Bandara of Hillwood College Kandy defeated Sanaya Buddhadasa of Visakha Vidyalaya to annex the Under-12 championship while Royal Institute’s Dheema Ali beat Lesanya Sithumdee of Dharmasoka to claim the Under-10 title.
The tournament, sanctioned by the Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka, was organised by Tibhar Sports Club, headed by former National players Buddhasiri Withanchchci and Namal Gunasekara and approved by Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka. Election Commissioner, Mahinda Deshapriya graced the awards ceremony as the Chief Guest while Dammika Wijesundara, the Deputy Director of Marketing, Singer Sri Lanka and Ajantha Jayawardana, the General Manager of Assetline Leasing Company were present as special guests. - NA
