COINS kicks off this week
The 3rd Colombo International Student Film Festival (COINS), the only international students film festival hosted by the Digital Film Academy of Sri Lanka Foundation (SLF.-DFA) will be held from September 7 to 9 in Colombo.
Organized by the final year students of the Higher National Diploma in Film and TV and VFX 3D Animation, the festival will comprise of three day sessions with workshops on TV and film making, techno-exhibition and screenings of selected local and international turns. The event will conclude with an awards ceremony where deserving students will receive 15 awards of excellence from an International Jury of distinguished filmmakers.
COINS is an academic event that create a platform to introduce new talent to the world of cinema. Started in April 2011, COINS film fest created a meeting ground for both local and international young filmmakers. The second festival was held in 2014. About 700 participants took part in the maiden 2011 COINS film festival and the film workshop was conducted by the acclaimed cinematographer M.D Mahindapala and Sri Lankan filmmaker Boodee Keerthisena.
The 2nd COINS Film Fest was held in 2014 with the participation of over 1000 individuals from over 6 countries including from China, India, Hong Kong and USA. In the 2014 COINS, about 1100 people participated and a number of film workshops were conducted by acclaimed cinematographer A.S. Kanal and film director Jayashree Kanal.
COINS is now a much awaited annual event specially for young filmmakers and film enthusiasts, a number of local academic institutions including universities and national schools.
