Drivers of three-wheeled vehicles routinely break road rules for their own convenience, putting the lives of their passengers, road-users and their own lives at risk.
Lane discipline is maintained, only if the police are present. One-way signboards are often ignored by many three-wheel drivers.
Sign-boards prohibiting particular actions do not deter three-wheel drivers from doing precisely what is prohibited. Reckless driving is also a serious concern, with three-wheelers weaving in and out of traffic at high speed.
Drivers regularly speed excessively, despite being aware that the vehicles have a higher tendency to lose control when driven at a speed.
In a bid to control this menace, the government is now planning to introduce Amendments to the Motor Traffic Act specifically ensuring the safety of passengers, drivers and other road-users.
