CIC group changes its agri-sector model
View(s):The CIC group is bringing in a major change in its agri-domain, moving towards high-tech solutions and innovations.
This plan is aimed at guiding the company business and organisational structure to a more agile and high tech direction, says Samantha Ranatunga, the Group Managing Director/CEO who is spearheading this initiative.
In order to facilitate this process, CIC will go for a innovative business model and focus on modernisation of agriculture moving away from traditional agri practices, he told the Business Times. This initiative will ensure a business ready to meet both the challenges and opportunities in the diversified areas the company operates, he added. Several consultants have been engaged in updating the software system of agri domain which is very complex to handle by local IT personnel, Mr. Ranatunga revealed. As a part of this process, CIC is poised to lay off some of the staff in a move towards healthy growth in modern technological environment, he said adding that a very few staff members had to leave the company under this set up.
He said the group has elevated the country’s agriculture sector via futuristic investments amounting to over Rs. 2 billion, infusing state-of-the-art technology in the industry making an enduring impact on the livelihoods of farmers.
