AIS emerge ‘C’ Division Girls cager champs
View(s):Asian International School emerged ‘C’ Division Girls champions at the Sri Lanka Schools Basketball Championship 2017 concluded at the Otters Basketball Courts recently. After a lapse of seven years AIS won a major basketball tournament which was fashioned by excellent combination of fast and attacking play. Every member of the team had a hand in this win with Anushika Mahendiran, Neisha Leanage stealing the limelight. Champions AIS met Methodist College in the final and they gave a fine exhibition of defensive play to halt the rampaging Methodist attackers. In this close battle the lasses from Thalakotuwa Gardens reached the post with a 27/23 victory.
Anushika Mahendiran was adjudged the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament and Neisha Leanage won the Best Defensive Player’s award. After winning the championship the team paid a big tribute to the Head of Sports Ms. Nihara Bagoos and Shamalee Rajapaksa and the sports staff for their encouragement and guidance. - LR
