S. de S. Jayasinghe College, Dehiwala emerge Cup Champions in Kurunegala

S. de S. Jayasinghe College, Dehiwala scored a fine victory to emerge Cup champions at the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association conducted Inter Schools Under-16 ‘Milo’ 10-a-Side Rugby Tournament concluded at the Maliyadeva College Rugby Grounds, Kurunegala recently.
The Cup finals between S. de S. Jayasinghe College and S. Thomas’ Prep School was expected to be a close game but the speed and power of the Dehiwala lads proved too much for the Kollupitiya Thomians as they scored a 5-0 victory to clinch the championship.

Madushan Sankalpa of S. de S. Jayasinghe College was adjudged the Best Player for his outstanding performance in the tournament.
On their way to the finals S. de S. Jayasinghe defeated Sri Sumangala Panadura 12-5 in the quarter-finals and Rahula College, Kandy 12-0 in the semi finals while the Thomians made their way to the finals with victories over Nugawela MMV 3-0 and Asoka Vidyalaya 10-5 in the quarter-finals and semi-finals respectively.
Sri Sumangala College, Panadura scored a hard fought 17-10 victory over Nugawela MMV in the Plate finals. Sri Sumangala scored through three tries, one conversion while Nugawela scored through two tries.

In the finals for the Bowl championship Sarasavi Uyana College scored a cake walk victory over Dutugamunu MV, Buththala. The lads from Sarasavi Uyana completely outplayed their opponents to emerge winners with a massive 29-00 win. The winners 29 points were scored through five tries and two conversions.
Devapathiraja College, Rathgama with 12 points won the Shield finals over Chandananda Buddhist College, Kandy. Devapathiraja’s points were scored through two tries and a conversion while the Kandy boys failed to score as they missed a few opportunities through stray passing. – Lakshman Ranasinghe
