The Govt, last year, in a non-formal Education programme, identified and educated 2,898 school dropouts and children not attending school due to poverty.  This includes 254 street children. The Ministry of Education, in its Annual Report 2016, states that Provincial level Obligatory Committees identified these children and sent them to school.

Under the programme, facilities have been provided for students to gain computer knowledge through literary classes.  Last year, 2,744 children from low income families participated in the programme. Additionally, for children interested in self employment, 1,070 income generating courses were delivered through 127 Community Learning Centres islandwide. (CC)
