GCE O/L, A/L exam results within two months
View(s):The Govt, under its new Education Reform plan, will release the GCE Ordinary and Advanced Level exam results within 2 months, in the coming years. The Ministry of Education (MoE) Annual Report 2016 states the action would enable the related candidates to apply for higher education on time.
The MoE said it is also looking at scheduling school Terms and Exam dates to suit this purpose. Minimising the time between exams and the results will enable Ordinary Level (O/L) candidates to enrol for their Advanced Level (A/L) classes. Additionally, early A/L Exam results would enable students to apply to local and overseas universities, on time.
Under a medium term development goal, the MoE will ensure every child gets an early childhood education in schools. The programme will also ensure that students do not drop out from schools, with every child studying up to the GCE O/L class and sitting for the national exam.
A 2-year Secondary Education programme is intended for students who fail to obtain the required grades at the O/L Exam. This would ensure 13 years of unbroken schooling for every student.
Arrangements have been made to provide these students with a 2-year Secondary Education course through the National Education Qualification (NEQ). The Govt also intends to increase the percentage of students admitted to Primary Education to 90% for 2017. In 2016 the target was 88%.
To accommodate the increased in students, a plan is in place to increase the number of National schools. This will be be done by absorbing 1AB schools functioning under the Provincial Councils, to the central govt. Currently there are 353 National schools functioning under the line ministry. - CC
