Indian Govt gifts ship to Sri Lanka Navy

The Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) provided by the Indian Govt to the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN), to expand its operational capabilities, arrived at the Colombo harbour yesterday morning. Upon arrival, the ship was received in keeping with Naval traditions, by the SLN.

The ship was officially taken over by the Director General of the Sri Lanka Coastguard (SLCG), Rear Admiral Samantha Wimalathunge at the Port of Kochi, India on Sept.5. The new platform manned by 10 Officers and 98 Sailors has Captain Nevil Ubesiri as its Commanding Officer.

Western Naval Area Commander, Rear Admiral Niraja Attygalle, SLCG Deputy Director General Nandana Jayarathne and a host of senior Naval officers from SLN Headquarters and Western Naval Command were present on the occasion.
