Karu Jayasuriya Chief Guest at commemoration event in Buddha Gaya
Speaker Karu Jayasuriya will be Chief Guest at the 153rd birth anniversary commemoration of Anagarika Dharmapala, the late Sri Lankan Buddhist revivalist, at Buddha Gaya, India, this afternoon (17), at a function attended by the prelates of the tri-Nikayas (Sects).
A large contingent of Sri Lankan Buddhists headed by the Maha Nayaka Theras (Chief Prelates) of the tri-Nikayas (Sects) viz., Ven. Warakagoda Gnanarathana Maha Thera of the Asgiriya Chapter, Ven. Napana Pemasiri Maha Nayaka Thera of the Ramannya Chapter, Ven. Thirikunamale Ananda Maha Nayake Thera of the Amarapura Chapter and the Ven. Niyangoda Vijithasiri Anunayake Thera of the Malwatta Chapter arrived in Buddha Gaya yesterday (16).
Speaker Jayasuriya will arrive from London for the function organized by the Maha Bodhi Society of India.
The Govt of India has arranged for a 17-member delegation of Sri Lankan media personnel to visit Buddha Gaya to coincide with the Dharmapala commemoration event.
