There was bright sunshine yesterday, at the second weekend of matches of the 25th Singer MCA Premier League 2018, with batsmen making hay scoring a century and eight half centuries in the four League Tournament matches concluded yesterday.
At the P. Sara Oval Commercial Credit scored a five wickets win over LB Finance despite a fine century by Dhananjaya de Silva (118), top scorer of the weekend. Chasing a victory target of 267 Commercial reached the target in 45.3 overs guided by Jehan Mubarak’s unbeaten 84.
Hatton National Bank (HNB) helped by three fine knocks by Madhawa Warnapura (92 n.o.), Minhaj Jaleel (56) and Malith Cooray (50) defeated John Keells Holdings (JKH) by 19 runs at the MCA Grounds.
A masterly innings of an unbeaten 82 by Kaushal Silva steered Sampath Bank to a comfortable five wickets win over Hayleys PLC at De Soysa Park, Moratuwa while DIMO drove home with a 37 run victory over Kanrich Finance at Surrey Grounds, Maggona.
Pulina Tharanga top scored for Dimo with 59 and two fine bowling spells by Ramesh Mendis (2 for 36) and Sammu Ashan (3 for 31) helped Dimo to dismiss Kanrich for 214 in this 46 over match.

Rain delayed the start of the Teejay Lanka innings and the game was reduced to 33 overs with a victory target of 215 (D/L). Teejay Lanka were just ahead of the required rate on 126/3 when another two overs of the game was lost due to rain. Chasing a renewed victory target of 204 Teejay Lanka batsmen threw their wickets away to loose by 26 runs with 16 balls left. Charith Asalanka scored 51 off 61 balls while Lahiru Jayaratne captured four wickets in 16 balls. Dilruwan Perera had a three wicket haul.
