Madirika sets new Race Walking record
U.V.K. Madirika of Kalutara Youth Club set up a new meet record at the 29th National Youth Games Women’s Race Walking event in Anuradhapura yesterday. She took part in the women’s 5000 metres Race Walking event finishing in 24 minutes and 26 secs, thus breaking the record she set up in 2015 at the Youth Games which was 25 minutes 25 secs. Madrika also triumphed at this year’s National Sports Festival (2017) Race Walking event held in Battaramulla.
The 10,000-metre men’s race (Over 20) was won by H.N.A. Ratnayake of Gampaha finishing the event in 54 minutes 39 secs.
The Marathon event of the National Youth Games (men and women) will be held this morning at Anuradhapura.
The event is being conducted by the National Youth Service Council (NYSC).
