St. Patrick’s looking down the barrel
St. Patrick’s Jaffna was set a massive target of 388 runs in the second session of play on day two by St. Joseph’s in their annual Under-19 Rectors Trophy cricket encounter played at Darley Road.
The Patricians in pursuit of the target was on 35 for 3 having faced seven overs and left with just under two sessions of play to save them from defeat. Earlier in the day St. Joseph’s though having a mammoth first innings lead of 247 runs opted to bat again and made a score of 140 for 6 declared from 35 overs with Shevaan Rasool making an unbeaten 56.
The opening day’s play saw St. Joseph invited to take first lease of the wicket making merry as Johanne de Zilva and Sachintha Mahindasinghe cracking half tons for them to make a formidable score of 285 for 8 declared.
Later the bowling duo Ashen Daniel and Dunith Wellalage ran through their opponents’ batting as they shared nine wickets between them to bundle them out for a meager 38 runs.
