Errant motorists beware; secret police are watching you
View(s):Police officers in civvies and using civilian vehicles have been deployed on the streets of Colombo from yesterday to nab errant motorists.
Police Chief Pujith Jayasundara launched this new operation yesterday near the Nelum Pokuna Theatre.
When an errant motorist is identified by these special officers in civvies, they will give details of the offending driver’s vehicle to uniformed officers, who will stop the vehicle and take legal action against the driver.
In another move, the Police will also identify law abiding drivers and reward them.
According to police statistics, there were 2,837 fatal road accidents in 2016, while this year, there have been 2,118 fatal road accidents as of September 21.
