India grants Rs 96m to renovate estate school

India and Sri Lanka signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) this week to renovate Saraswathy College, Pussellawa, in the Kandy District, with an Indian Govt grant of LKR 96 million. The signatories were Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, and Education Ministry Secretary Sunil Hettiarachchi, at an event held at the Indian High Commission (IHC), Colombo, with the participation of senior officials of the Sri Lanka Govt.

The project includes construction of new buildings to accommodate Science Labs, Lecture Halls and teachers’ quarters; repair and renovation of existing buildings including parapet and retaining walls and playground; provision of office and ICT equipment, furniture etc.

“This project is in continuation of the Indian Govt’s assistance to and cooperation with the government of Sri Lanka Govt. in the field of Education, including organising English Language and other training programs, and the grant of scholarships to Sri Lankan students, to pursue their studies in Sri Lanka and in India,” states a press release from the IHC.
