Eranda, Kalpani emerge Mini Marathon champions
J.M. Eranda Madusanka of President’s College Uva and R.D. Kalpani of Matara MMV emerged champions of the third stage Mini Marathon held at Matara yesterday.
The event which was flagged off from the Uyanwatte Stadium saw Eranda reaching the winning post with a timing of 36.55.6 minutes while Kalpani finished the race with a timing of 43.49.3 minutes.
Meanwhile in the 5km events of the two categories which were conducted concurrently saw S.V.P. Poorna Sandaman of Rahula College Matara with a time of 13.15.1 minutes and W.M. Hasanthi Madumali of Sujatha BV Matara with a time of 15.56.50 minutes coming out victorious.
The Nestomalt Mini Marathon and the 5km events saw the participation of over 1600 athletes from Western, Southern and Uva provinces.
The boys Mini Marathon comprised of 31 athletes while the girls had 23. The 5km boys’ event comprised of 1020 athletes and the girls 582 runners.
